How binaural beats work

If your left ear hears 200 Hz and your right ear hears 204 Hz, your brain fills in a 4 Hz pulse that isn't actually in either tone. Slow beats in the delta and theta range (about 1–7 Hz) are associated with deep relaxation and the drift toward sleep.

Headphones are essential

The effect only works when each ear gets its own tone, so binaural beats need stereo headphones or earbuds — through a speaker the two tones simply blend and the beat disappears. Mynded sets a soft, sleep-tuned beat over a gentle noise bed so it's pleasant to rest to.

A calming beat with a sleep timer
