Panic attacks

Meditation for panic attacks

A panic attack is terrifying, but it is not dangerous, and it will pass. Grounding and slow breathing can ease the intensity and help it move through faster. Mynded is built to guide you gently in the moment — and if panic attacks are frequent or severe, please also reach out to a healthcare professional.

What's happening in a panic attack

A panic attack is your alarm system firing full-blast with no real danger present — racing heart, tight chest, a sense of doom. It feels catastrophic, but the surge peaks and fades on its own, usually within minutes. Knowing that, and slowing your breathing, tells your body it's safe and helps the wave recede sooner.

Riding it out with Mynded

In the moment, Mynded guides you through slow breathing and simple grounding — anchoring you to what's real and safe right now until the peak passes. Used regularly, its calming and breathing practices can also lower your baseline anxiety, so attacks come less often and feel less overwhelming.

When panic hits, right now

  • Remind yourself: this is a panic attack, it will pass, I am safe.
  • Breathe out slowly and longer than you breathe in.
  • Ground with 5-4-3-2-1: see, hear, feel, smell, taste.
  • Let the wave rise and fall — you don't have to fight it.

Common questions

How do I stop a panic attack fast?

You can't force it to stop, but slow breathing and grounding ease the intensity and help it pass sooner. Long exhales and naming what's around you signal safety to your nervous system.

Is a panic attack dangerous?

As frightening as it feels, a panic attack itself is not physically dangerous and it will pass. That reassurance alone often takes some of the edge off.

Should I see a doctor about panic attacks?

If they're frequent, severe, or affecting your life, yes — please talk to a healthcare professional. Mynded is a mindfulness companion, not a medical service. In a crisis, contact a local emergency line or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
